Things To Do

Fun and frugal places to go and things to do that are ongoing. It's always a good idea to check with the place before you go just to be sure they are open when you are planning to go.

Each branch has a different day and time. There are storytimes and/or bookclubs for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, homeschoolers, teens, and adults. Find a branch near you here.

Hands-On Gallery at Alabama Department of Archives & History
The main objective of the "Hands-On Gallery" is to give children a chance to experience Alabama's past in an interactive environment. "Grandma's Attic" is a unique hands-on area where children dress up in clothes from an earlier time and play with a variety of objects from the non-permanent education collection.
The "Hands-On Gallery" contains "Discovery Boxes" that aid children in exploring different topics in Alabama history such as World War II, American Indian pottery, quilt-making and Alabama's first ladies. Games, puzzles, photos, maps, toys, etc. stimulate children to learn by creating and playing.
