Calendar: September 2015

September has two of my favorite free events here in Montgomery-Ballet and the Beasts and Broadway Under The Stars. Two excellent, free opportunities to expose your children to culture and the arts.

Friday 9/4/15
7:05 pm Montgomery Biscuits vs. Birmingham Barons. 
Fireworks Friday, Tickets $9 and up. 

Saturday 9/5/15
7 am-Noon The Shoppes at Eastchase Farmers Market

9 am-Noon Home Depot Kid's Workshop-Football Toss Game FREE
  • Come learn how to make a football toss game
  • FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 - 12
  • All kid get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.
  • Kids Workshop activities are scheduled on a first come/first served basis. Please do not arrive before 9:00 a.m.
  • Thank you for registering online to help us better plan our craft kit quantities needed

Tickets $9 and up.

1 pm  First Sundays at One. MMFA
Free docent-led tours of the museum galleries. 

5:35 Montgomery Biscuits vs. Birmingham Barons
Fan appreciation Night. Post Game Fireworks. Tickets $9 and up. 




Thursday 9/10/15

7:30-9:30 pm Broadway Under The Stars FREE
Free concert of Broadway hits performed by the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra at the Blount Cultural Park. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome. 

Saturday 9/12/15
7 am-Noon The Shoppes at Eastchase Farmers Market

6-10 pm Prattville 176th Year Celebration FREE
Location: Heritage Park Fountain. Hometown favorites The Bryan Jackson Band will be performing. Food vendors will be onsite and downtown restaurants will be open. This 2nd annual event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (334) 595-0800.

This FREE program offers young children and their families special stories and simple art activities in the Museum galleries each month.

6 am-Noon Gigantic Flea Market Doster Center in Prattville 

7 am-Noon The Shoppes at Eastchase Farmers Market


Friday 9/25/15
6-10 pm Ballet and The Beasts FREE
Enjoy the Montgomery Ballet in a FREE performance under the stars at the Montgomery Zoo.  Admission is FREE, picnic blankets and chairs are welcome.  Join us Sept 25, gates open at 6pm, the performance will begin at dusk.  Ballet and the Beasts is an evening event at the Montgomery Zoo.  All zoo animals will be in their night quarters during the event.  Select Education animals will be on display prior to the event.


Saturday 9/26/15
7 am-Noon The Shoppes at Eastchase Farmers Market

9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. Tours of the Alabama State Capitol Tours start at the Union Street lobby. FREE

10 am Lowe's Build and Grow Workshop-Firetruck with Fire Safety Cards FREE
Registration opens 9/14.  

2-5 pm Worldwide Day of Play Pratt Park FREE
The Prattville Games will include relay courses and medals will be provided in different categories much like the Olympic Games. These relays will be open for ages groups K-2nd grade, 3rd-4th grade, and 5th- 6th grade.
The event will take place at the Amphitheatre at Pratt Park from 2pm-5pm. Children must be on site at 2pm for the event to begin. After the awards, everyone is invited to stay and play in the park and enjoy free hotdogs.

2-4 pm Family Art Affair and Jazz Jams- MMFA
Bring the entire family to this FREE fun event and enjoy a jazz combo and special art making activities in the studios reflective of the five categories of the exhibition A Journey Through the Collection: Docent Choices 


Tuesday 9/29/15
6-8 pm Chick-fil-a Eastchase Kids Night
