Calendar: April 2015


Here is a sneak peek at events coming up in April. There are so many things going on, I wanted to go ahead and get this out there so you (I) can start making plans. I will be adding more as I find events. If you know of something comment here or on the Facebook page. :) 

Now get out there and enjoy spring in Alabama! (Before it gets too hot!)



Saturday 4/4/15
9 am-Noon Home Depot Kids Workshop FREE
Learn to build a chalkboard planter stand. Hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 - 12. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin. Kids Workshop activities are scheduled on a first come/first served basis. Please do not arrive before 9:00 a.m. Thank you for registering online to help us better plan our craft kit quantities needed

10 am Spring in The Forest Party FREE
Food, music, fun, inflatables for the kids, an Easter Egg hunt, and tons more.
This event is completely free and all in the community are invited to attend.

10 am April Alabama Walking Tours FREE
Community leaders will guide these free tours through the historic districts or courthouse square areas of their hometowns. The hour-long tours start at 10 a.m. on April 4, 11, 18 and 25. Participating towns in the area include: Montgomery, Prattville, and Selma.


Sunday 4/5/15
1-2 pm First Sundays at MMFA FREE
Learn more about work in the Museum (traveling exhibitions as well as the Museum’s Permanent Collection) in these FREE docent led tours the FIRST Sunday of each month at 1 P.M.



Saturday 4/11/15
8 am-6 pm Alabama Flora & Fauna Arts Festival Lanark 
Admission charged

9 am-6 pm Zoo Weekend at Montgomery Zoo
Festive environment with live entertainment, games, rides, bouncy houses, big slides, inflatables, pony and camel rides, petting zoo, karate demos, Montgomery Police K-9 presentation, live animal presentations, concessions and animals from around the world.  Enjoy the many activities, fantastic food and have fun together at an affordable price.  It is also an excellent opportunity to take advantage of discounted memberships.  Zoo Weekend admission: $15 for adults, $11 for children ages 3-12 years old, FREE for toddlers 2 years old and younger and Montgomery Zoo members.  Special discounted admission for the Mann Museum: $3 all ages. Discounted Zoo memberships:  Save $5 on single membership, zoo or museum.  Save $10 on a combo membership, zoo and museum.


9 am-5 pm Alabama Book Festival FREE
With over 50 authors and more than 60 vendors and exhibitors, this free public event is the state’s premier literary event. Thousands of people from around the state and the Southeast gather at the festival each year to meet their favorite authors and scholars. A fun activity area for children makes this a day of fun for the entire family! The 2015 Alabama Book Festival will continue the tradition of promoting reading and literacy to Alabamians of all ages and backgrounds. This year we're also celebrating Alabama's Year of Barbecue and International TableTop (Games) Day.

10 am Lowe's Build and Grow FREE
Kids can build a See It Grow Planter. Register online.

 Location: Riverfront Park, Riverwalk Antique and Classic Car Show at 12 p.m., Live Entertainment by Fly by Radio at 6 p.m., Interactive Activities for Kids, Various Food  and Drink Vendors, Fireworks at 9 p.m., Fireworks Cruise aboard the Harriott II
$1 Admission, 12 and Under Free * All Proceeds benefit EAT South

Saturday 4/18/15
9 am-Noon Plant It Montgomery FREE
at Oak Park. There isn't a lot of info out about this right now but in past years there have been plant and tree giveaways, kids activities and other info that's good for gardeners or those wanting to learn about gardening.

2 pm-7pm Wetumpka CraterFest
The Wetumpka Area Chamber of Commerce has a very exciting day planned for Wetumpka! Live Music, Free Kidz Zone (2-5 pm), Art Exhibits, Craft & Food Vendors, and much more!!
Festival begins at 2:00 PM  in Gold Star Park
2:00-5:00 PM Crater Tours $5

Saturday 4/25/15

5 pm-10 pm Global Astronomy Month and National Astronomy Day FREE
 W.A. Gayle Planetarium in Oak Park
Telescope Clinic, Kids activities,Guest Speakers, Tour of the Nightsky.
Join the Auburn Astronomical Society for an awesome evening of star and planet gazing after sundown in Oak Park.

Tuesday 4/28/15
6-8 pm Chick Fil A Eastchase Kids Night
The Home Depot Workshop. Build a craft with The Home Depot Crew.
