March 2014

You all know my very favorite holiday is Christmas and I love all the fun family events that happen in December but right after that is my next favorite season: Spring! I love March and April and all the great outdoor events that occur at this time. I missed most of spring and summer last year when I was (very) pregnant with twins and then had them in April. I didn’t get to go and do very much last year so I am super excited to get those babies (that are almost a year old, by the way) and the rest of the kids outside for all the fun this year!

Free SKYWARN Basic Storm Spotter Class 3/13/14

This looks really interesting! Bad weather has always fascinated me. I may want to go myself. This would also be great for an older homeschooler to do to learn how to observe and report weather.

The Montgomery City/County Emergency Management Agency has opened registration for a FREE SKYWARN Storm Spotter Class scheduled March 13, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Pike Road Town Hall Council Chambers, 9575 Vaughn Road, Pike Road, AL 36064.

Anyone 12 years of age and older interested in learning about severe weather may attend this free training provided by the National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office, Birmingham.

Registration for this course is preferred. Please call the Montgomery City/County EMA Office at 334-241-2339 or email Shaye Redden at sredden@montgomeryal.gov, or call Pike Road Town Hall at 334-272-9883 to reserve your seat(s) today. Registration will remain open until 5 p.m. March 12, 2014.

Timely and accurate reporting of information is invaluable to the NWS warning forecasters and their warning decision process. SKYWARN-trained storm spotters provide the NWS with vital “ground truth” data and help NWS to better carry out its primary mission: saving lives and property.

For more information on this course and other upcoming spotter training opportunities, please visit: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/bmx/?n=skywarnschedule. Please contact EMA at 334-241-2339 with any questions.

Blue Gray National Tennis Classic and Kids Festival 2/21-2/23/14

The Blue Gray National Tennis Classic starts Friday (2/21/14-2/23/14) in Montgomery at Lagoon Park, it's FREE to attend and watch the matches and if you give the name WSFA you get FREE Blue Bell Ice Cream! (They did not say if there was an age limit on this or if it was during the entire festival but couldn't hurt to try. This was on the video linked below.)

On Saturday morning (2/22/14) from 10 am-11 am, there is a FREE 10 and Under Tennis Festival. Kids (10 and under) can play tennis games and learn from world reknowned tennis promoter and instructor – Wayne Bryan (father and coach of world number one doubles team – The Bryan Brothers.)
There will also be free t-shirts, free ice cream, face painting, games and prizes and a visit from (my favorite mascot) Aubie!

Sounds really fun!
For more info check out this video from WSFA.

Thanks, Amanda, for the heads up!
