River Region Family Weekend Activities

The Alabama National Fair starts tonight (10/7) and runs through 10/16. More info can be found here.

If the Fair's not your thing, there are a few other things to do this weekend. They aren't all free but most are pretty cheap (cheaper than the fair):

Saturday 10/8/11

8 am Eclectic Cotton Festival All Day FREE
Events will include: Alabama Cotton Pageant, Cotton Run (5K), Alabama Championship Rook Tournament,  Antique and Classic Car Show, Photo and Art Contest to be judged by media industry and professional photographers, Pet Parade, Sweet Treats Contest, Kids Zone with pony rides, trains, inflatable bounce castles, and games, Cotton Exhibit, and vendors of all types.
There will also be live music on the Main Street Stage beginning at 9:30 a.m., headlined by the Keith Moddy Band, along with Troy-based Fire Mountain and Wetumpka resident Bradley Roberson.

9am Oakwood Cemetery Tours with Mary Ann Neeley
The tours are free for Landmarks Foundation members and anyone under 12. The cost is $5 and the tours last about 2 hours.

9-11 am Department of Archives and History Museum- Museum In The Mornings
Hands-On History children's activity: Indian Bead Necklace followed by a docent-let museum tour.

10 am-Noon Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic
Monster Machine Build (Recommended  for grades 1-5)
1-3 pm Michael's Crazy Pumpkin Event
Design and extreme craft pumpkin (ages 3 and up)
Make it and take it with purchase of pumpkin

1 pm-10 pm The Autauga County Fair Admission $3 (ages 4+)
Midway rides armband $20. Entertainment, arts and crafts and free parking.

Sunday 10/9/11

1-3 pm Michael's Paper Bat Event
Free make it and take it. While supplies last. Ages 3 and up.

1 pm- 2 pm Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Free docent-let tours every Sunday at 1!
