River Region Staycation: Free & Cheap Things To Do In Montgomery, Prattville and Wetumpka


Are you planning a Staycation in the River Region this summer? If so, here are some ideas for free or cheap things to do.

Free or Cheap Things To Do In Montgomery, Alabama
Let the kids explore the Artworks gallery at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. (FREE)
Take the kids to play in the Hands On Gallery at the Alabama Department of Archives and History Museum (FREE) and then go across the street to the Alabama Cattleman's Mooseum (FREE)

Take a walk down the Riverwalk and then cool off at the Amphitheater Splash Pad (FREE)
Take a walk around Blount Cultural Park's walking trails and the Shakespeare Garden & Amphitheater. Then feed the ducks and have a picnic in the park.  (FREE)

Tour the First White House of The Confederacy and Alabama State Capital (FREE)

See the fountain in Heritage Park. (FREE)
Take the family (including the dog) for a picnic at Cooter's Pond Park and Dog Park. (FREE)
Play on the playground, take a walk, then have at picnic at Pratt Park or Overlook Park. (FREE)
Take at swim at the Pratt Pool. ($2 per person, Under 3 Free)

If you have to have some sand between your toes and the coast isn't in your budget, head to Wind Creek State Park where you can enjoy fishing, swimming and picnicing on the "beach". Less than an hour away from Montgomery. (Ages 12+ $3, Ages 6-11 $1, Under 6 Free)
