How You Can Help Elmore County Tornado Victims

Many families in the Elmore county area were affected by the storms last Wednesday. You can help in several ways.
1. Donate Items
Lakeview Baptist Church at 9225 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery is collecting items to take to First Baptist Church Eclectic which is serving as a distribution point in that area.

The needed items are as follows:
  • Individually wrapped snacks-think things that won't melt in the heat such as granola bars, cracker packs.
  • Non-perishable foods
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Toiletries and hygiene supplies
  • Bottled water
  • Large Ziploc bags
  • First aid supplies
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Hand sanitizing wipes
  • Batteries C and D size
  • Flashlights
  • Lanterns
(As a couponer, I would like to point out here that you can check out sites like Southern Savers to find out good deals on many of the needed items. You can really stretch your dollar if you use sales and coupons to purchase items to donate.)

New items that are useful:
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Sheets
  • Pillows
  • Kitchen towels
  • Blankets
(They have requested no used clothing until further notice. There is also a need for really large tarps- like roofers use- to cover the damaged homes to prevent further damage from coming rains.)

2. Donate Money
There are many ways you can donate- The Red Cross or the Alabama Baptist Convention State Board of Missions. You can also send a check to Lakeview Baptist Church at P.O. Box 241738, Montgomery, AL 36124-1824. Just mark Disaster Relief in the memo line of the check. The money will be used to buy needed supplies to take to the families and workers in Elmore county disaster area.

3. Donate Time
Workers are needed for clearing debris, sorting supplies, passing out food and many other areas. Check Lakeview's Facebook page for more info on trips that our group is taking to the area this coming week. Or call any local church that is collecting items and offer to help sort the donated items.
4. Pray
Pray for the families that were affected, for the volunteers, for God's glory to be made known  in this tragedy. Pray that God will show you a way that you can be involved. He is faithful to answer our prayers.

He comforts us when we are in trouble, so that we can share that same comfort with others in trouble.
